About Pinot Gris and Pinot Grigio
Pinot Gris is a white wine grape variety, thought to be a variant of the Pinot Noir grape. It normally has a grayish-blue fruit, hence the name gris, which means grey in French. Like Pinot Noir it originates from the vineyardsof Burgundy in France. Pinot Gris tends to be a vibrant and complex wine.
The variety of Pinot Gris grown in Italy is known as Pinot Grigio - no surprises there, grigio means grey in Italian!
The typical characteristics are aromas of spice, fruit and honey, hints of pear on the palate, and a dry style.
